Elsie MacGill was the first woman to earn a bachelor degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in aeronautical engineering (1929). She was the first practicing Canadian woman engineer. In 1938, she became chief aeronautical engineer of Canadian Car & Foundry.
Elsie at the age of 35 supervised the production of the Hawker Hurricane fighter plane. she was the world's first female aeronautical engineer and aircraft designer. Elsie was a polio survivor.
On October 17, 2024, the Rotary Club of Moncton West and Riverview (RCMWR) members and guests volunteered to assist the YWCA Moncton at their YWCA Pink Tea Event.
Special thank you to our RCMWR volunteers President Sherry Trenholm, Catherine Black, Sherry Mourant, Atilio Guerrero, Ketan Ravel, Julianna Mutch, Maria Mutch, Roberto Palma, Noel Eustace and Karen Eustace for preparing and serving delicious pink drinks and meals to assisting with the service and ushering guests to their seats.

On October 18, 2024, President Sherry Trenholm volunteered at the Forest Glen School Breakfast Program and provided assistance to Eileen Lewis and Nancy LeBlanc who are both Educational Assistants (EAs). This school currently has 420 students, approximately 58% are international students and 200 students enjoy the breakfast program.
Volunteering for this RCMWR service program is so much fun and a wonderful way to start the day.
Highlights of this volunteering experience was dancing with the students, and EAs when the hall monitor arrived playing music, listening to an indigenous song at the start of the school day and visiting the Reading Corner sponsored by the RCMWR in memory of Yves Maillet. The Reading Corner includes area rug, mobile media towers, book carts, lots of books and some iPads. Enjoy the photos taken at Forest Glen School.
October 18, 2024, 50 members and guests of the Rotary Club of Moncton West and Riverview enjoyed a fun social evening at the Albert County Museum. This event included a delicious buffet dinner and one-of-a-kind “True Crime Murder Mystery Tour”, featuring an excellent guided by Janet Clouston, Manager of the Albert County Museum & RB Bennett Centre. October 24, 2024, World Polio Day
The Moncton Rotary Club has extended an invitation to us to meet them at Tire Shack Brewing Event Centre at 5 pm for their Pints for Polio initiative. Tickets are $20 and are available here. All ticket proceeds and a portion of drink sales will go to Rotary's End Polio Now Campaign.
Around 7pm, we will be heading down to the Rotary Park at the Avenir Centre which will be illuminated purple for World Polio Day. We will then head to Moncton City Hall where our End Polio Now flag is flying for the week. We will hear from Polio survivor Eric Mourant and some words from District Governor Elect, Marcel Gervais.

- YWCA Monctonsend a thank you note to all the RCMWR volunteers thanking them for being such a vital part of their Pink Tea Gala event. RCMWR volunteers were acknowledged for the hard work making a significant impact and YWCA Moncton acknowledged they could not have done this event with the help from RCMWR.

- Month of October is Pints for Polio initiative to bring increased awareness to our community about World Polio Day. If you are eligible to donate blood, please do so. Karla McLean has challenged the RCMWR members to continue to exceed the 20 donations, received in 2023.
