The first recorded use of the term was between 1955–60. In some Nordic countries, there's a tradition called Lillördag, which translates to "little Saturday" and involves celebrating Wednesday evening as a mini-weekend. Do we think Wednesdays are worthy of a celebration ?… My answer is “Wine not?!?”
Now that Summer is almost over (although technically we have 5 more days!), its time to get back into the regular swing of things and that includes making forward progress on our Club's Action Plan, which was approved late in the last Rotary year.
As a reminder, there are four broad areas of focus:
Under each of these broad areas of focus, there are four sub areas of focus and then over 50 identified items for our club to explore further and/or action.
Some of these actions have already started to occur. As examples,
Engage in Multi-club service projects (i.e. Ribfest with Dieppe Club)
Expand Volunteer Service Opportunities with Other Organizations (i.e. RMHC Family Room and YWCA volunteer activities)
Family friendly social events (i.e. plans to expand events for family members such as a bowling evening)
Our Rotary Club's Board and Committee Chairs are also tasked with ensuring their plans are aligned with our Action Plan (more info will be shared on this). BUT…. there is lots more to do, and it is likely that the entirety of the Action Plan will take many years to fully implement. We also may need to reassess and adapt the plan along the way and that's ok too. I'm including this info today to ensure we keep our Action Plan top in mind as we move forward and that it doesn't become a plan that sits on a (virtual) shelf collecting (virtual) dust.
There are two events (Action Plan related … you may tire of me bringing this up so often🤣) items I'd like to share. Relating to actions: “More Interaction with other local Rotary Clubs – Social/Service/Fundraising” and “Create more informal social gatherings for members”, here are two events that I wanted to shared to support other Rotary clubs in our area:
(If these links don't work for you, please let me know and I will forward them to you by email).
