August 23, 2024, Meeting Update

Nicholas O'Toole, 2023-2024 President received 2023-2024 Rotary Citation Award on behalf of the Rotary Club of Moncton West and Riverview. This award is the most significant award a Rotary Club can achieve for completing their Club goals and will be proudly displayed on social media to celebrate the Club's achievement.

Spinning Wheels Tour

Thank you to Darrell Nameth for inviting the Spinning Wheels Tour Team Lloyd Taylor (Speaker), Jane Craig, Li Jiang, Brent Bowe, Callum Taylor (support driver) and Sofia Bowe to our Rotary luncheon meeting.

Lloyd Taylor confirmed on July 27, 2024, three teams, each including at least one cyclist like himself living with Parkinson’s, commenced cycling over 10,000 kms across Canada, crossing all provinces, two territories and three coasts in 60 days to raise funds and awareness to help Canadians living with Parkinson’s. Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder that effects the nervous system and parts of the body controlled by the nerves.

Parkinson’s related charities and community groups will be hosting events across the country. Funds raised in each province and territory will go back to our partner charities to assist with providing programs and services to Canadians living with Parkinson’s disease.

The Relay will wrap up on September 28, 2024, in Ottawa with a big rally and party.

2024 Rotary International Convention

President Sherry Trenholm presented on her journey to the Rotary International Convention held in Singapore May 25-29, 2024. Refer to link below for a copy of the President's presentation.

Sherry encouraged all members to visit the Rotary International website to listen to the 2024 Rotary International Convention presentations.

In addition, the members learned about the Rotary Fellowships and Rotary International Convention House of Friendship. Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience. All members will be excited to check out the following link and connect with other Rotarians around the world.

New Member Induction Ceremony

President Sherry Trenholm and sponsor Ian Franklin had the pleasure of inducting Mark Estey as new member to the Rotary Club of Moncton West and Riverview and letting him know he is required to wear his Rotary pin daily. Warm welcome was provided by all the Club members present at the meeting.

New Member Mark Estey Featured

Mark Estey is the owner of Adams Pest Control, a business that operates in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and employs ten people.  He is also a regular speaker and mentor at Oulton College, where he serves on the Academic Advisory Committee.

Mark also serves as a mentor with the LMI program. He has served on various boards and committees, including the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick finance committee (current).

In Mark's spare time, he enjoys running, watching sports, and going out for wings. Most important, however, is family time with his wife, Stephanie, and their two sons, Logan and Jonah. We can often be seen running the roads and taking the boys to hockey, baseball, judo, and wrestling competitions.

As a Christian, Mark embraces the principle of “loving my neighbor.” From what Mark has seen and come to understand, Rotary provides a platform to live this out: actively fundraising and serving the community. The welcoming atmosphere he experienced, and the genuine passion of fellow Rotarians convinced him that this is a place worth investing his time. Mark looks forward to contributing his skills, learning from others, and creating lasting change and friendships alongside and with like-minded individuals.

Mark we are delighted you are now a member of the Rotary Club of Moncton West and Riverview.

World Polio Day

Special thank you to Karla McLean for completing a special lighting request to the City of Moncton to recognize the World Polio Day.

Great news is the City of Moncton will recognize the World Polio Day by illuminating Downtown Place, the Avenir Centre and Downing Street with purple lights the night of Thursday, October 24th, 2024.
