Our health is everything. Yet 400 million people in the world can’t afford or don’t have access to basic health care.
This month, we celebrate the work Rotarians worldwide are doing to combat diseases through effective treatment and prevention. In 1985, Rotary pledged to eradicate polio and look at the progress that has occurred! Today, Rotary International has partnered with the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and regional governments worldwide to complete this pledge.
Although infectious diseases continue to be a major cause of illness and death across the globe, they are not the major health concerns for most developed countries. Now many people are seeing their lives shortened by chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Many of these conditions are not caused by infectious agents but are rather due to certain health behaviors and social conditions.
Rotary’s continued involvement in Disease Prevention and Treatment will thus need to be directed toward finding solutions to these social and behavioral determinants of health while continuing to fight against existing and emerging disease threats. You as a Rotarian have been enlisted as being a part of that fight. Thanks for all you do to support these important initiatives.
The Rotary Foundation is changing the world by providing grants for projects and activities around the globe.

November 29, 2024, Meeting Update
Members enjoyed a great meeting at Five Bridges Bar and Grille Restuarant and three exceptional presentations.
First presentation was Benison Enosh, Rotary Youth Exchange Student from Uganda and he provided a musical surprise. Members learned about Benison's family, hobbies, Uganda, local food, his love for music and Canada and so much more. Benison loved his first snowfall experience this week and is looking forward to more snow this winter.
Next presenter, Rotarian Sean Robertson completed his classification talk and shared with members that he was a Family Man, Tech Leader, Community Advocate and a Hiker! Sean explained how the tech industry is developing and updated us on how he used AI to develop his classification presentation. Members also learned about ChatGPT and how it helps you get answers, find inspiration, brainstorm and be more productive. Sean shared why he joined Rotary.
Third presenter, Rotarian Kehinde Balogun, completed his classification talk. Kehinde shared his passion for civil engineering, the difference between construction projects in Nigeria and Canada, his love for his family, the community, sports and helping others. Kehinde told everyone is wife selected Moncton to be their new home, and they are enjoying living in the community. Kehinde is looking forward to volunteering in future Rotary projects.
Rotarian Barbara Elias was scheduled to complete her classification talk; however, was struggling with a cold on Friday and did not want to share this cold with fellow Rotarians. Barbara's classification talk will be rescheduled in 2025.
