Naval Reserve Cadet at the University of Saskatchewan (UNTD) 1959 to 1962 and Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve in Saskatoon and Montreal from 1962 to 1965
Traffic Officerwith Bell Telephone in Montreal from 1964 to 1966
Trade Commissionerwith Foreign Affairs Canada (now Global Affairs Canada) – from 1966 to 2002
About me
As a Trade Commissioner our family (Judie (shown in photo), daughter Kelly and son Brooke) were posted to Philadelphia, Pa; Mexico City; Santiago, Chile; Melbourne, Australia; Bucharest, Romania; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Guadalajara, Mexico, as well as home postings in Ottawa, Edmonton and Saskatoon. As a result, we have become fluent in Spanish, to a lesser degree in French, with some knowledge of Romanian and Danish.
Upon retirement Judie and I moved to Moncton from Guadalajara where I became involved with the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Moncton and RCMWR. Through the Chamber I became a co-founder of the Greater Moncton Immigration Board (GMIB) where I subsequently became Chair. As a member of the Chamber, I served in a number of roles, including the Board.
Years in Rotary?
32 years as a member of 4 clubs in 3 countries – Philadelphia, Saskatoon, Guadalajara and RCMWR, the latter since 2002.
My Hobbies
Walking, duplicate bridge and activities at least 4 times a week in the Common Room of our apartment building.
What is your favorite thing about being a Rotarian? -
Taking the lead on initiatives impacting our community, including as President of RCMWR, leading the decision-making process and subsequent establishment of Rotary Ribfest (2012-2014), and later as Area Governor for the former District 7810 from 2015 to 2019 during which Club Presidents and Membership Committee Chairs in the Greater Moncton Area (GMA) worked together to exchange information, ideas and took on joint community-focused projects.
Tell us something others might not know about you?
As President of the Greater Moncton Immigration Board, in 2014/2015 I initiated, and a strong team from the City of Moncton led, the transfer of immigration oversight in the GMA from the GMIB to the 3 GMA Municipalities which is co-ordinated by an Immigration Specialist with the City of Moncton – this role is even more critical today.
