October 24, 2024, Rotary International celebrated World Polio Day along with Rotary Clubs around the world. Members of the RCMWR enjoyed a get together with Rotary Club of Moncton at Tire Shack Brewing Event Centre for their Pints for Polio initiative. Tickets were $20 and all ticket proceeds and a portion of drink sales went toRotary's End Polio Now Campaign.
At 7pm, we headed Rotary Park at the Avenir Centre which will be illuminated purple for World Polio Day.
Next was a trip to City Hall where our End Polio Now flag was flying for the week.
Special thank you to Polio survivor Eric Mourant for sharing his story that evening prior to us travelling to Downey Street also lite up in purple.

October 25, 2024, Luncheon Meeting
Club members enjoyed an excellent presentation by Sheila Nicolle - Horizon NB Management of Osteoarthritis (OA) and GLA:D Program shown in the photo below with President Sherry Trenholm.
GLA:D Program was developed in Denmark in 2013 to put into practice recommended guidelines for the treatment of OA which included education, exercise and weight management as first line of treatment. Program was designed to help prevent or delay the need for a joint replacement.
Statistics of OA is the most common chronic disease over 65 years old. Risk factors are higher in women, and include generic factors, age, physical inability, muscle weakness, joint overload (sport/occupation), weight and joint injury.
GLA:D Program offers twice weekly exercise sessions for 6 weeks plus 2 educational sessions. This program is free of charge for individuals suffering with knee and hip pain.
General results from GLA:D is less pain, less need for pain medication, higher quality of life, greater ability to manage daily activities, improved confidentiality in joints, overall confidence to be physically active!
Program is free and waiting period for assessment is 3-4 months. Contact 506-377-5807 to register at the Jones Lake Location.
RCMWR Strategic Planning Sessions
October 26, 2024, Strategic Planning Session lead by Darren Hansen was a success. Phase 2 of the Strategic Planning is completed.
Next Strategic Planning Session is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10 am to 3 pm with 1 hour for lunch break at the YWCA Moncton, located at 135 Kendra Street. On this date see you at the YWCA Moncton main entrance door adjacent the parking lot will be open at 9:45 am. Session goal is to complete Phases 3 and 4 of the Strategic Planning in one day.
November 16, 2024, Strategic Planning Sessions replaces the previously scheduled November 9 and 30, 2024 sessions.
Coffee, waters and treats along with pens and notepads will be provided. Please confirm your attendance with President Sherry Trenholm.

Member Featured - Greg Turner
Greg Turner was elected to the 60th Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the September 14th, 2020, Provincial Election as MLA to represent the riding of Moncton South and held this position until October 2024. Greg attended Sir George Williams University where he completed his Diploma of Retail Business Administration in 1971.
Greg returned to Moncton to join the family business of Colpitts Men's Wear Ltd., a fixture on Moncton's Main Street for over 100 years, where he had a successful business career for over 45 years, before retiring in 2016.
Greg and his wife Claudette operated a number of retail businesses in Moncton, spanning a career of almost four decades. They also were well known in the Community for spearheading many seasonal Shows and Events including Turner's Christmas at the Coliseum, Speed Sport Car Shows, Victoria Park Arts and Crafts Fair, as well as the Magic Hands Festival of Fine Art.
Greg enjoyed a lengthy motorsports career that saw him compete in events from Coast to Coast, including the Targa Newfoundland and the ALCAN 5000 Car Rallies. He and his wife Claudette were inducted into the Maritime Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2019.
Greg had a strong interest in Junior Hockey with over 20 years involvement, which included bringing the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to New Brunswick.
Greg was elected to Moncton City Council in 2016 as a Councillor-at-Large. He has worked tirelessly on a number of files, including the economic revitalization of the City's Downtown.
Greg has also chaired Events Moncton during his time on Council, while also serving on a number of Committees, including Downtown Moncton Centre-Ville Inc., Downtown Development and Revitalization, Farmer's Market and on the Board of Moncton Industrial Development Inc.
Greg has also contributed to many Volunteer Non-Profit Community Organizations, including Chair of the Fundy Trail Development Authority Inc., Past President of the Moncton West and Riverview Rotary Club, 100 Men That Care and Hospice South East New Brunswick.
Greg, along with his wife Claudette, have lived in the City's Downtown core for nearly 20 years and looking forward to their next adventure.
