Dear Fellow Rotarians:

As we head into the May 19 long weekend, I'd like to take a moment to wish each of you a relaxing and enjoyable break. Whether you're spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, or simply unwinding, may this weekend bring you rest, reflection, and a renewed spirit.

Let's also take pride in the service we continue to provide to our community -your dedication and compassion make a difference every day.

Enjoy the long weekend and stay safe!

Rotarian of the Week

 - Colin Reeves

  • Profession
  • Royal Air Force Officer
  • About me

  • I joined the Royal Air Force as a Youth Entrant at 16 ½ years old in 1974.  I initially worked on Hercules aircraft but at 17 ½ I chose to become Aircrew rather than be posted to Northern Ireland – not a nice place at that time.  I qualified as a Flight Engineer and served on Nimrods (during which time I was on the first crew to be deployed to Ascension Island during the Falklands War) after which I taught Leadership Training and Survival training to airmen aircrew recruits.
  • I then served on AWACS aircraft in Germany and the UK followed by being in charge of the Air Engineer Training School.  I did several staff tours which included Strategic Planning and being a special advisor to the Minister and then completed a tour as Operations Wing Commander (and Station Commander for my last 6 months).
  • My best flying tour was on the BBMF Lancaster which I did for 3 years.  Very privileged to meet veterans who flew this iconic aircraft during the war.
  • I am also a qualified instructor, Project Manager and ran air displays for 3 years.  Moved to Canada in 2010.
  • Years in Rotary?
  • 13 years a member of RCMWR
  • President 2019-2020
  • Treasurer for 2 years 2016/17 and 2017/18

  • Paint The School – Edith Cavell
  • Spaghetti Supper and Pancake Breakfast – Edith Cavell
  • District Environment Committee
  • My Hobbies

  • What is your favorite thing about being a Rotarian?
  • Being able to give back to the Community.
  • Tell us something others might not know about you?
  • Hilary and I own land in Scotland which allows us to use the title Lord and Lady Hougan

Guess Who is Coming to Dinner

A heartfelt thank you to Rotarian Nadine Larche who organized the Guess Who's Coming to Dinner event - it was a fantastic evening of connection. laughter, and community spirit. We're also incredibly grateful to the following generous hosts (John Patterson and Nancy Black and Eric and Sherry Mourant) who opened their homes, as well as to all Rotarians, Rotary International Exchange Students and Guests who attended and made the night so memorable.

Rotary fostering connection, community and goodwill.

Looking forward to the next one!

Volunteers Wanted

Host Families and Drivers needed for the Rotary Friendship Exchange for our visiting Rotarians from Peru that will be in Greater Moncton Area from June 7 to 12, 2025.

If you are hosting Rotarians from Peru, you are not required to be a driver. Hosting typically involves providing accommodations, meals and companionship - not necessarily transportation. Other volunteers or organizers can assist with driving and logistics if needed.

Please contact Noel Eustace <bumperchute@ca.inter.net> for further details and to volunteer.

Ribfest 2025

- We are just over 5 weeks until Ribfest and help is urgently needed at the Committee level to make sure we can run the event safely.  We still need someone to step up to volunteer as the Site Co-ordinator at the Committee level and during the week of Ribfest.  Whilst we have had 2 people say they will help, they are already sub-committee chairs, so it is essential that someone else helps out.

- Also, we urgently need someone to help with sponsorship as the previous sponsorship chair has left the club.

Here is the volunteer link

And here is the link for the supervisors.

People can volunteer for both at the same time as well so if they can be a volunteer to work but also can be a supervisor contact person during their shift.

Please contact Colin Reeves as soon as possible, f you are willing to help with any of the roles above.
