Rotarian of the Week

 - Stuart Musgrave

  • Profession
  • Senior Account Manager with the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) for the past 14 years. As a business development banker at BDC I take an alternative approach to commercial financing that revolves around maximizing the potential of Canadian business. I am able to provide flexible solutions for working capital needs, equipment purchases, high leverage real estate, technology financing, consulting and many other project-specific term debt needs.
  • About me

  • I grew up in Cape Breton, NS. My wife Erin is a Nurse Practitioner and we have been together for 30 years. I am passionate about golf and also about helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses.

  • I have played golf since I was 10 years old and stated playing tournaments when I was 11. I have been to 7 National Championships representing both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. I finished 3rd in the Canadian Mid Master Championship in 2015 and have a Bronze Medal from Golf Canada. I was a Golf Professional for 15 years before joining BDC, including two years where I played for a living in tournaments all over North America including on what is now known as the PGA Tour Americas.

  • I left the golf business after finishing my MBA and then gaining my Certified Management Accounting designation. I am currently a member of CPA New Brunswick. I have lived in NB for 20 years, first in Miramichi and then Moncton. My wife and I love to travel, especially for golf.

  • Years in Rotary?
  • 13 as a member of RCMWR but was also a member of the club in Miramichi while living there.
  • I was Co-Chair of the RCMWR Membership Committee for 6 years and served on the Board at those times.
  • I served on the RCMWR Corporate Golf Tournament Committee. Although not on the committee anymore I still assist each year collecting golf related prizes for the tournament and for the auction.
  • I have been on the RCMWR Charities Board since inception more or less and will finish my term this year.
  • My Hobbies
  • Golf, golf and more golf.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a Rotarian?
  • I love giving back to the community. My father was a Rotarian and instilled in me the desire to give back.
  • Tell us something others might not know about you?
  • Besides golf my wife and I also love to travel to the World Junior Hockey Championships. We have been to the tournament four different times including in 2019/2020 when we attended in the Czech Republic. We loved attending in Europe and plan to attend the championship again there in the future.
Spring Into Art Auction

  • May 1, 2025, the Rotary Club of Moncton hosted for the third year in a row an art auction to help fund YWCA Moncton programs and support local artists. This collection included paintings, pottery, driftwood, stained glass and textile artworks. The Art Auction fundraiser was a very well-organized event with delicious food, with beautiful artwork by very talented artists as noted in the photos below.
  • Special thank you to RCMWR Rotarians Ian Franklin, Juergen Weiland and Sherry Trenholm for attending and supporting this event.

  •
A special thank you to John Wishart for inviting Anissa to her first RCMWR luncheon meeting and being her sponsor.

Ribfest is a wonderful way to connect with the community and invite guests to our RCMWR luncheon meetings.

Guest Speaker Tim Moerman

We enjoyed an excellent presentation on 'Climate Change and Moncton' last week from Tim Moerman, Director of Environmental Planning and Management at the City of Moncton.

Tim is an urban planner by training and has been dealing professionally with climate change in one capacity or another for over thirty years. He has a career-long focus on energy, sustainability and climate-friendly urban planning. "

Tim has been a speaker at the Atlantic Planners Institute Conference, and he also worked in the planning department of the City of Ottawa.

Tim did an excellent job educating on Climate Change, our environmental impact on Green House Gas (GHG) emissions including transportation and food. He also explained about the City of Moncton's Climate Actions and Target to reach Net Zero by 2025.

Did you know the average Canadian's GHG Emissions is 14.2 tonnes CO2 each year. This includes consumer goods 2.5 tonnes, services 1.4 tonnes, food 2.3 tonnes, housing 3.1 tonnes and transportation 5 tonnes.

What should we do? Make the best choices, whenever we can and act as a citizen to push our society to enable better choices (long, steady effort).
Volunteers Wanted

Ribfest 2025

- We are just over 6 weeks until Ribfest and help is urgently needed at the Committee level to make sure we can run the event safely.  We still need someone to step up to volunteer as the Site Co-ordinator at the Committee level and during the week of Ribfest.  whilst we have had 2 people say they will help, they are already sub-committee chairs, so it is essential that someone else helps out.

- Also, we urgently need someone to help with sponsorship as the previous sponsorship chair has left the club.

Here is the volunteer link

And here is the link for the supervisors.

People can volunteer for both at the same time as well so if they can be a volunteer to work but also can be a supervisor contact person during their shift.

Please contact Colin Reeves as soon as possible, f you are willing to help with any of the roles above.
