As we shift into February, I am noticing it’s getting cold out there! During the pandemic lots of things have slowed down or come to a full stop. However, homelessness has not taken a break because of COVID-19. The good news is our Rotary Club is doing something about it. We are a lead sponsor for Coldest Night of the Year set to happen nationwide on February 20th. Seven Club members and some of their friends have reformed the Dream Team led by Past President Ian Franklin. Ian’s fund-raising team is in second place in Canada among over 3,000 teams. I ask our Club members to consider supporting the team or one of its walkers to further this great cause. Just Google CNOY 2021 Moncton, scroll down and click on The Dream Team and follow the donation instructions. Thanks for considering raising some cold hard cash for the hungry, the hurting and the homeless.
We received a letter from Rotary International General Secretary, John Hewko, with the following advisement:
As a humanitarian organization we must act responsibly to protect our members and the communities we serve, and the risks of the pandemic are still real and widespread. The Board advises regional leaders, district governors, club presidents and others to hold meetings virtually through the end of the Rotary year.
We discussed this at the Greater Moncton Area Presidents last Friday and the consensus was that RI is advising the club presidents to hold virtual meetings until the end of the Rotary year and that we bring this back to our members. Until we get back into the Yellow phase in the Province, this seems to be the best practice for all clubs. This will be discussed at our MWR Rotary Board meeting scheduled for next Wednesday and the results will be shared with all members.
Please keep safe and I hope to see you soon.
