As we shift into February, I am noticing it’s getting cold out there! During the pandemic lots of things have slowed down or come to a full stop. However, homelessness has not taken a break because of COVID-19. The good news is our Rotary Club is doing something about it. We are a lead sponsor for Coldest Night of the Year set to happen nationwide on February 20th. Seven Club members and some of their friends have reformed the Dream Team led by Past President Ian Franklin. Ian’s fund-raising team is in second place in Canada among over 3,000 teams. I ask our Club members to consider supporting the team or one of its walkers to further this great cause. Just Google CNOY 2021 Moncton, scroll down and click on The Dream Team and follow the donation instructions. Thanks for considering raising some cold hard cash for the hungry, the hurting and the homeless.
We received a letter from Rotary International General Secretary, John Hewko, with the following advisement:
As a humanitarian organization we must act responsibly to protect our members and the communities we serve, and the risks of the pandemic are still real and widespread. The Board advises regional leaders, district governors, club presidents and others to hold meetings virtually through the end of the Rotary year.
Our MWR Rotary Board has discussed this and decided that we will have virtual meetings until we get back into the Yellow phase. Once we are in the yellow phase, we will decide the best option for future meetings.
