COLISEUM MEETING ROOM D

377 KILLAM DRIVE,

12 PM NOON

Greetings Fellow Rotarians:

October is Rotary International's Economic & Community Development Month. Rotary Clubs all over the world help communities and people in other countries with projects that aim to provide sustainable ongoing development and help, not just immediate charity.

Meet the 2024-2025 Moncton West Rotary Charities Inc. Board Members:
  • Darren Hansen, Chair
  • Richard Jardine, Treasurer
  • John Wishart, Secretary
  • Stuart Musgrave
  • Sue Murray
  • Bruce MacDonald
  • Nadine Larche
  • Andrew Friel
  • Jon Andrews
  • Lisa Gallagher
Congratulations to Andrew Friel on doing an excellent job Chairing the Annual General Meeting for the Moncton West Rotary Charities Inc. held on September 27, 2024.

The Moncton West Rotary Charities Inc. manages all funds raised by our club’s fundraising and donates to charitable causes in our community.

The charity accepts donation requests for the Rotary Year – July 1 to June 30. The deadline for submitting fund applications are August 1 for special requests and November 30 for annual giving.

Funds requested must be completed on a “Fund Request” form and will be given only to non-for-profit organizations.

The charity considers requests from organizations working in the areas of children and youth programming, healthcare and low-income families. In particular, our club funds organizations that are engaged in cultivating the character and personal responsibility of children and youth as well as providing intellectually and socially enriching experiences.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30)

At the weekly RCMWR luncheon we acknowledge meeting on the ancestral, traditional and unceded territory of the Wabanaki and Mi'kmaq First Nations People.

Our Club honors the people and the land, and also the elders, their knowledge keepers, their ancestors and their valuable past and present contributions to the land.

On September 30, 2024, I had the opportunity to attend the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation ceremony at Moncton City Hall. On this day citizens in the community came together to remember and reflect on the painful legacy of residential schools in Canada, to honor the Survivors and to recognize the intergenerational trauma experienced by Indigenous communities.

This day, also known as "Orange Shirt Day", is a reminder that every child matters and that we must continue toward healing, justice, and reconciliation.

During the ceremony "The Elsipogtog Spirit Singers" including Manuella Caravantes, Mike Milliea, and Joan Milliea (show in the photo above) shared their words of wisdom and provided the traditional blessing and music.

True Crime Murder Mystery Tour

The Albert County Museum (ACM) offers a one-of-a-kind “True Crime Murder Mystery Tour”, featuring a special guided tour with an emphasis on the Tom Collins Murder Trial as recently featured on the History Channel’s “Repossessed”, which aired September, 2024.

After a delicious buffet dinner (cash bar provided), we will tour the beautiful Albert County Court House (shown in the photo above) and share details of the murder, arrest, imprisonment, the three separate trials (a first in Canadian history), and the ultimate guilty verdict and execution.

ACM has the distinction of having the Court House where the trial took place, and the Gaol where Collins was imprisoned.  The only man hanged in Albert County; this is also the site where he was buried for 60 years prior to being moved to Lower Cape Cemetery.

After the tour you can decide for yourself – Guilty or Innocent!

Deadline for registration for this event is October 11, 2024.

Mark you calendar for "Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Dates as follows!"
  • Friday, November 1, 2024
  • Saturday, January 25, 2025
  • Saturday, May 3, 2025
Nadine Larche will be providing more details on this dinner adventure in the next few weeks.
